Ted Strayer. You can chill with me if you want, dude.

Ted Strayer is a wasteland vagabond who decided to become a Rivet City resident in 2277.

Background[]

Born in 2258, Ted has spend most of his life wandering the wasteland.[Non-game 1] Since his father's passing, leaving him with money to rely on,[1] Ted has developed a relaxed attitude towards life,[2][3][4] as he has three square meals a day, and a safe place to stay.[5] One that can be described as overly relaxed, as he uses his money to feed his drug addiction and has no plans for any future.[6] It is easy to pique his interest, but it's difficult to hold it.[Non-game 1]

A recent arrival to Rivet City, he spends his time in the common room, just hanging around, until he decides where to go next.[2] He has gained the reputation as a good for nothing, as he seems to not have any skills, and is illiterate. If the Lone Wanderer convinces Mr. Lopez to live he can be asked to give Ted guidance as a surrogate father figure.[7]

His father Jeff Strayer was a mercenary, who before passing was a part of a five person expedition to Fort Constantine. The expedition was successful and it allowed him to accumulate a small fortune. However events of this expedition led him to become a target by another former member, Mister Crowley.[1] Crowley however is just after the key to a treasure within the Fort, unbeknownst to Ted, who is now the target as he holds one of the keys to the secret experimental chamber.[Non-game 2][8]

Daily schedule[]

He can be found in the Capitol Preservation Society in the afternoon. Furthermore, he frequents The Muddy Rudder bar and the common room between 4 and 6 AM, along with wandering around the flight deck from noon to 2 PM.[9]

Notes[]

  • As a recent arrival to Rivet City Ted Strayer is not a believer in the cult of Saint Monica, despite evangelical appeals by Father Clifford.
    • Sometimes the Lone Wanderer may hear a conversation between Strayer and Father Clifford. Clifford tries to convince Strayer to believe in God, but he responds that there is "no way in hell."
  • The Lone Wanderer may also see Ted attempting to converse with James Hargrave, but be called an asshole in return, and mentions that his mother told him that Ted is a good for nothing.
  • Ted Strayer, like other non-essential non-player characters, can occasionally die for no apparent reason. This may be due to him falling off of the flight deck and standing partially submerged in the water for a long period of time, subsequently drowning or dying from a fatal dose of radiation.
  • Ted was born the same year as the Lone Wanderer.

Notable quotes[]

  • "Thanks for not croaking me, dude." – This line is spoken when convincing him to let go of the special key.
  • "Okay, dude, Don't have a cow. Here, take it." – This line is spoken when when threatened with the Toughness perk during the quest You Gotta Shoot 'Em in the Head.
